WeSmile’s new track Strange Days will be released on our label next week. A good moment to have a chat with these 2 guys from Sweden about this new track, their favorite producers and more..
Could you please tell us something about yourself? Where do you guys live and how did you become a dj/producer?
We are two 21-year old guys from Stockholm, Sweden. Primarily we fell in love with producing our own tunes about 3-4 years ago. It was after we heard the insane Klaas remix of ‘This Time’ that we really fell in love with house music. The DJ part came after about a year of producing. We hade our first gig in a nightclub in mid Stockholm, acting as warm-up for Alex Sayz.
There’s a new release coming up on Flamingo Recordings called Strange Days. Could you fill us in about how you produced this new track?
This track has a really simple story actually. It was one of those studio sessions where everything just ran smoothly. Every sound, and every percussion we came across suited the track perfectly. Believe it or not but the entire track with a thorough mixdown was done in about a week!
Do you guys have any other new tracks, which will be released the next coming months?
We hate to be those guys who joins this group of producers using this phrase frequently but; we do have some very special stuff coming for the world to hear, although it is something we can’t really reveal any details about. Yet!
If you can remix your favorite classic track, which track will it be and why?
We have always wanted to remix deadmau5’s ‘Strobe’ since the day we heard it for the first time!
If you had to choose would it be DJ’ing or producing and why?
This is a really tough question, understandably. We’d have to be boring and say both. There is this joy when you are producing that you can’t really explain. Putting your thoughts and emotions, and letting them transform into music is a great art we really enjoy doing. On the other hand you have the ability to show your tunes first-hand, and get to experience the response from the audience live, which is almost unbeatable.
What are your biggest and favorite tracks of the moment on the dance floor or on your playlist?
The track that works really well on in the clubs and on the dance floor is the awesome ‘Get Up’ by HIIO. And in our playlists we listen to basically anything from the most recent album of swede singer Veronica Maggio right now.
Which producer are you most impressed by from a technical point of view?
We are in love with the work of the incredibly talented M83. And within the house scene we would have to mention two of our all time favorite producers deadmau5 and Eric Prydz. All three of these are without a doubt given a certain master’s touch when it comes to producing.
About your musical influences, who has had an impact on you through the years and are there any new acts that have caught your attention recently?
Well obviously the previously mentioned producers, but also (of course) the legendary Daft Punk has always been an influence when we sit in the studio. As of now, we really love the music Michael Brun and Sick Individuals are releasing right now. Those guys are truly talented.
Music is obviously your passion, but is there anything else that you equally enjoy?
We actually got to know each other through basketball, which has been a passion of ours all the way through our friendship. We play it, watch it, and talk about it almost everyday!
Do you have any advice for upcoming producers or dj’s?
Follow your heart and do what you really have passion for. Don’t produce songs other people want to hear, but produce songs that you feel connected to emotionally.
What’s the next thing for you to do?
Go to sleep. We’ve been up for almost 24 hours!
